Just an hour north of Baton Rouge in the rolling hills of southwest Mississippi, there is a place like no other you've visited. Tatum Plantation has established a wonderful reputation as one of the premier hunting destinations in the South and if you love to hunt, look no further; you have come to the right place. We are also very proud of the manner in which our guests are taken care of while staying on the plantation. Our well appointed lodge and Southern hospitality, along with the camaraderie in great surroundings, will provide you a truly extraordinary experience. Also, Tatum Plantation is a great destination for a weekend getaway, small wedding, family reunion or executive meeting.

After purchasing our pine-covered property in 1991, we wanted to manage the wildlife and be able to hunt on our own land. Every year we culled out the inferior deer, always aiming for a 2-to-1 buck-to-doe ratio. We emphasized improving the browse, planting food plots, and providing supplemental feed. After years of culling, the deer were not getting much bigger. We realized the missing ingredient was the inability to prevent our

bucks from being killed by other hunters in the area. With 2,350 acres of pine plantation, mixed hardwood drains and creek bottoms, we made the decision to erect eleven miles of high fencing around the plantation. Obviously, we'd been managing the deer well; we just needed the fence. By protecting the deer, we had big bucks in two years and now, we can manage the deer to their greatest potential. Tatum Plantation has consistently produced huge whitetail bucks with only existing native genetics; no breeding or shooting pens, no trucked-in deer, no introduction of out-of-state deer.

Tatum Plantation is now booking turkey and whitetail hunts. If you are after a great management or trophy class buck, then call today and let our great staff plan a hunting experience just for you. We look forward to meeting you.

Accommodations

Don't Miss the Cheerful Accommodations at Tatum Plantation

The Lodge at Tatum Plantation was designed with your comfort and enjoyment in mind, and is truly the most unique lodge you’ll ever visit. Alan and Renee Priest, owners of Tatum, always dreamed of building a lodge, and after working closely with an architect to adapt the plans of the Coastal Living 2002 Cottage of the Year, she has designed a lodge that truly showcases the southern hospitality found at Tatum and makes guests there think of it as their “home-away-from home.”  Besides serving as general contractor, Renee worked closely with several talented carpenters and craftsmen, leaning heavily on her assistant Betty who designed and custom-made all the chandeliers in the lodge. Ask her about them as you tour the lodge—she can even design one just for you.

The sleeping accommodations at The Lodge are as creative as they are comfortable.  In the Buck Hollow suite you can choose between sleeping in a queen-sized “cowboy” poster bed, the “Deer Stand,” a loft which is designed for young hunters who have always dreamed of a bed that’s “above” and beyond their wildest imagination, or snooze in the “Bunkhouse,” a private niche with a cozy twin bed. There is also an old-timey wooden bathtub big enough for two people (shades of “Maverick!”) along with an enormous shower that boasts it’s own free-standing shaving sink. This suite adjoins the main lodge by way of an enclosed vestibule/library and has its own private sitting porch overlooking Honey Hole Lake and the lighted covered bridge. It’s a great place to enjoy an evening cup of coffee and even spot a deer or two, besides all those trophy bucks mounted on the wall of your bedroom!

Without sharing too much and spoiling all the surprises, the Gobbler’s Roost bedroom is all about turkeys, and our Quail Ridge suite features quail and pheasants galore as well as a queen-sized bunk bed! Attached to the lodge by a comfortable sitting porch complete with outside fireplace, you’ll find the Wood Duck Hole and John Wayne’s Place, where you’ll sleep soundly in a bedroom constructed of logs, complete with homemade chinking and birch bark. Cozy up to the fire on the porch, watch deer graze across the lake, and enjoy some of Renee's Double Coffee Tiramisu, Chocolate Chip Cookies or Bananas Foster for dessert..

At the heart of the newly completed lodge is the Great Room, the perfect place to reminisce about the day’s adventures in front of the huge fireplace. Rustic furnishings complement the antique woodwork and treasured deer mounts that adorn the walls. There’s even a flat-screen television to see what’s going on in the rest of the world, or to keep up with your favorite football team.

At the Guide Shaque (LSU Tiger terminology!) you can “rough” it with the guides, who are always ready for a competitive game of ping-pong. Your game will also be processed at the new Rack Shack facilities.

Southern hospitality reigns supreme at Tatum, and Robbie Lynn, Amanada and Renee are the perfect hostesses. You’ll meet them both upon your arrival and your mouth will water when you return from your hunt and smell the aromas coming from the kitchen as they prepare appetizers, meals, and desserts just for you. A mouth-watering Brunch is served after the morning hunt, complete with pancakes, biscuits, bacon, ham, eggs, grits, fruit and anything else that we can prepare for you. Be sure to eat some of Amanda's breakfast and hash brown casseroles and sample the appetizers after the hunt!

When the summer fruit is ripe in the orchard, our other helpers, Molly and Miss Kathleen, make their homemade peach and pear preserves, along with their muscadine jellies. Homemade blueberry jam, cooked at the peak of the season, finds its way onto the lodge’s table right next to the biscuits, along with “made from scratch” pound cakes.

Our experienced guides and lodge staff will ensure that you have a once-in-a-lifetime experience during your stay at Tatum Plantation. We have blended tried and true Southern cuisine and hospitality with first class accommodations so that your vacation will be everything you expect—and so much more!
